When I first heard that Rihanna is potentially collaborating with Chris Brown for the “Birthday Cake” remix, I didn’t believe it. I thought, ‘Rihanna is smart; she won’t do that’.
Well, clearly I overestimated Rihanna’s intellect. Tonight she released not one but two Chris Brown collaborations. In addition to “Birthday Cake”, Rihanna and Chris Brown collaborated in the “Turn Up The Music” remix.
To put it simply, this collaboration is irresponsible. It’s dangerous, too.

As 2011 comes to a close, it’s time to do another countdown.
This year, I’ve had a hard time deciding on just 10 singles, so I opted to list 11. (It’s one of the perks of having your own blog — you get to change the rules anytime you want.) I thought the number 11 is perfect anyway since this is for the year 2011.
Without further ado, here are my choice for the top 11 pop singles of the year and a little explanation of why they made the list:

Florence + the Machine recently dropped by BBC Radio 1 to promote their fantastic new album Ceremonials. During the visit, Florence Welch and her band performed some of their old and current hits plus some covers, which include their own rendition of Drake and Rihanna’s “Take Care”.
As usual, the band brought their own flavour to the table, injecting the song with some gospel love.
Everyone pretty much knows that I love Florence Welch, but I have to say that I can’t really get into this rendition. It may be because I’ve listened the original version so many times, I don’t know. I love the subtlety of the original version — Rihanna’s parts had good restraint in the original version — so I’m not loving Florence’s vocal calisthenics here.
In “Take Care”, Drake also does what he does best: rapping, then transitioning to singing, then back to rapping. Obviously, this version is missing that.
It usually takes me a few listens to eventually love songs from Florence + the Machine though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this one grows on me.

Just over a year after releasing Loud, Rihanna is back again with a new album. This time, the pop superstar is more confident than ever.
The first half of Talk that Talk is pure fire. “You Da One”, a collaboration with hitmaker Dr. Luke, is easily the most accessible song on the record. It’s a nice track that sets the tone for the album.
With “Where Have You Been”, the party officially starts. From the simple first verse up to the anthemic chorus, “Where Have You Been” hits all the right spots. Even the small instrumental break between the choruses work to move the song along to the next level. This track is easily one of Rihanna’s best, and I do expect radio (and club-goers) to eat this up.

Pop music heavy weights Beyoncé, Rihanna and Britney Spears all released new videos recently. I could write individual posts for each, but that’s not very efficient, is it?. So instead, I present to you this one big blog post.
