Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to see Dragonette at the Outgames Vancouver 2011 Closing Ceremonies. The trio brought the house down, bringing their eclectic sound to a small but very enthusiastic crowd at the Plaza of Nations.
I wasn’t actually planning on going to this event. Originally, I was going to see Manila Luzon perform at a pool party, but the promoters of that event messed up. I won tickets for that pool party from another blogger, but for some reason, TFD Presents, the promoter, didn’t have me on their guest list. Also, the pool party was apparently already at capacity when we got there, pissing off many other guys in the line up who already purchased their tickets.
Anyway, I didn’t want to make lots of fuss about not being able to get in, so my friends and I decided to go to the Outgames Closing Ceremonies instead. I really wanted to see Dragonette and Ace of Base anyway.
After a few hours of other performances (most of which are not really that noteworthy), Dragonette finally took the stage at around 7:30pm. The crowd immediately went insane; people were hesitant to go near the stage before, but with Dragonette, everyone wanted to be near.
Dragonette is killin' it! <3
The one big highlight of the set for me was their performance of “Summer is Set”. It’s such a fun song! “Hello” was another highlight. My friends and I were a bit disappointed that “Take it like a man” wasn’t performed.
Martina was electrifying to watch. She sounded great and she brought great energy.

I arrived at the Plaza of Nations at around 5:30, so I had a couple of hours to kill before Dragonette performed. Among other things, I rode a bike to get my strawberry daiquiri blended it. (You had to do the same thing if you wanted to buy a pina colada.) I thought that this was a fun concept, especially for an event like the Outgames. There were also a lot of food inside the plaza.

Ace of Base closed out the event, but unfortunately, I couldn’t stay for their performance. Dragonette was amazing though and I’m really glad I finally saw them live. You can expect me to be at their show the next time they visit Vancouver again — whenever that happens to be.
